A Door Into Hindi: Lesson 10

I. Addressing Brothers and Sisters:

In Hindi, we generally specify whether the sibling is older or younger, i.e.:

बड़ा = big (older) छोटा = small (younger)

बड़ा भाई = older brother छोटी बहिन = younger sister

II. Addressing parents:

We have two expressions for “parents” in Hindi:

माँ-बाप and माता-पिता

You can’t mix these expressions and say माँ-पिता or माता-बाप . Also, always put mom first!!
